Ozma

Ozma have been at it for nearly 15 years. Their first taste of national exposure came through a tour opening for Weezer (who their detractors have ceaselessly accused them of ripping off...not to pour salt on that wound, but these guys are WAY more interesting, especially considering =W='s latest output...oof.)

They put out three full lengths and did several USA/Japanese tours. Called it quits in 2004, then reformed in 2006 with a new drummer and put out their latest, "Pasadena." Since they toured to promote that record, they've been pretty quiet.

Why is Jadakiss the hottest it gets? Because, god-durgit, when assholes like me throw the words "smart" and "pop" around, THIS is what they SHOULD be talking about, not fucking Tokyo Police Club. Bassist Daniel Brummel is a master of his craft. This is the rock band he formed in high school, and it has served as a canvas for his development as a musician and composer, as well as an outlet for McCartney-to-his-Lennon Ryan Slegr's (guitar & vocals) often less ambitious but equally engaging tunes. This music is just RICH and so satisfying.

My personal favorite Ozma songs (bundled neatly for you, babydoll):

Come Home Andrea
Gameover
Heartache vs. Heartbreak
I Wonder
Lunchbreak (Cobras Theme)
Incarnation Blues
Maybe In An Alternate Dimension
Restart
Spending Time
Domino Effect
The Business of Getting Down

If your fancy is sufficiently tickled, you can peep the records through their myspace page.

Bonus Recommendation: Thomas Haake Drum Cam - "Bleed"

- Peter "Sandwich Artist" Bermel

  1. peter bermel once coerced me into climbing up a palm tree under threat of sodomy. i didn't get halfway up before i fell and broke both of my legs, but goddamned if that doesn't beat getting raped.

    i trust this man implicitly.
