Roma 79

Hailing from San Francisco (one of several American cities I MUST visit within ten years,) Roma 79 are a gift passed down directly to my ears from Zeus. Not the DJ, the Greek god of all Greek gods.

This is the band Donnie Darko and Patrick Bateman formed in my garage, completely unaware of the 80s revivalists popping up around them, more in tune with the urgency and bombast bands like Tears for Fears produced in earnest back in "the day." (I wasn't alive.)

But, hey now, don't get the wrong idea. This whole business of decadism, in relation to Roma 79, is all me. Their myspace page and website are vague, as is their label's. It would appear the music is meant to speak for itself, which is how it should always be. Their use of electronics without crossing into cheese territory is captivating. The drummer is usually on the Bonham tip, and they are not afraid to get prog on that ass when appropriate (which is the beautiful thing about this fucking band! Everything about the arrangements is JUST RIGHT!) Also, they're named after a Spinal Tap song.

Personal favourites off of "Praise the Divide" (posted in one mediafire link for your convenience):
- Rounders
- Colorful Acts
- Shapes They Had To Build

Live video:

- Peter "Birdking" Bermel

Bonus Recommendation: Mad Cobra - Flex (Time To Have Sex)
